Based on the Life Cycle Assessment concept, Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) is a technique used for assessing social and socioeconomic impacts related to products or services.
S-LCA is composed by the same steps that an LCA has, as it is also under ISO 14040 series. Results are evaluated across impact and stakeholders’ categories. Thus, attention is given for issues such as human rights, working conditions and cultural heritage and among groups like local community, society and consumers.
Although not yet in the same scientific level as environmental LCA, since there are some challenges to be fixed, this assessment also provides valuable information on social indicators and on opportunities for improving them. Hidden threats can bring damage to reputation, showing them can support the decision making process.
